Best Anal Lubes You Can Get Behind

Well…I could say “maybe”. After all, any water-based sex lube is better than nothing. And let’s not forget that some people use coconut oil or Crisco baking lard.

However, having something specifically targeted for anal sex is WAY better – they are usually slipperier, longer lasting, and balanced specifically for anal PH levels etc.

I’ve made it abundantly clear that Sliquid is one of my favorite lube brands. They pay attention to body-safe ingredients, PH levels, allergic reactions, and osmolality. The great news? They also make one that is compatible with anal play. 

The fact that it’s water-based is both a pro and a con – you’ll be able to use it with any condom or silicone sex toy, but (even though it’s a thicker formula) it won’t have the staying power that other lubes will.

BEST FOR – People who love light anal play or use silicone sex toys.

INGREDIENTS – Purified Water, Plant Cellulose (from Cotton), Cyamopsis (Guar Conditioners), Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid PJUR ANALYSE ME
These guys have been in the game a LONG time (over 20 years). Their products have always been targeted for anal play, and they always rank in the list of best lubes.

It’s silicone-based with jojoba oil (but there is a water-based version if you need it), the relaxing agent is non-numbing (which is important – despite what the sensations tell us, pain is our friend), BUT there are  plenty of other options in their collection if this doesn’t quite to it for you (including “BACK DOOR”, another anal targeted lube).

BEST FOR – Those who need help with uncomfortable anal sex, want a thicker lube, but don’t like the idea of desensitization. For those who want a trusted brand.

INGREDIENTS – Dimethicone, Dimethiconol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Amyris Balsamifera Bark Oil. SWISS NAVY SILICONE
This is another hard-hitting contender against Pjur. They might be a younger company, but their edge includes a pump lid that travel-locks and the use of PURE silicone in their formula. It’s odorless, tasteless, latex condom compatible, and can even be used as a massage oil.

There is one downside. Despite having a very velvety feeling, it can end up feeling gritty on the skin when it dries, can be a little difficult to wash off, and it could irritate some people’s skin if not washed off completely.

BEST FOR – Those who have no problems with backdoor play and maybe want a great product that’s slightly cheaper.

INGREDIENTS – Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Flower Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate. JO H2O ANAL
JO makes some good products. They might not be as well-known or prevalent on the sexual stage, but I’ve personally used their sex cleaners and water-based lube. They’re a good alternative and have many variations on the formula to suit whatever your personal preferences are.
 
BEST FOR – A good fallback or beginner silicone lube for light play.

INGREDIENTS – Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclotetrasiloxane, Dimethiconol BOY BUTTER
Aside from having the best name ever, they have also taken their “pot” design and updated to a squeeze bottle (just don’t leave it in the kitchen or someone might actually mistake it for a condiment). Boy butter is oil-based, which means it’s fantastic for pegging. It’s also thick and has amazing staying power.

 Since the oils are natural, they won’t stain your sheets. However, oil lube is NOT compatible with latex condoms (some say yes to polyurethane, others say zero condom use). So, this might affect your decision to use it or not.

BEST FOR – Those who want a really long-lasting, thick and creamy lube. Pegging or sex toy enthusiasts.

INGREDIENTS – Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils, Glycerin, Polysorbate 60,Tecoheryl Acetate, Glyceryl Stearate, Phenyl Trimethicone GUN OIL
It’s an insanely slippery and smooth lube and a very respectable alternative to the other silicone players on this list. It’s got a slightly more discreet bottle (if you need that sort of thing). The difference between this and the others really comes down to personal preference.

BEST FOR – Anal players who don’t need relaxants etc.

INGREDIENTS – Aloe Vera, Vitamin E, Hydroxythylcellulose, Ginseng, Guarana, Silicone ELBOW GREASE
Another oil-based lube (so be mindful with condoms). It will not disappear and is slippery AF – so you’re covered for all sorts of intense play.

The oil part makes it a bitch to wash away (but that’s what also makes is a great anal lube) and it will stain your sheets, so don’t forget to put down your play blankets. If you don’t like the thicker version, there’s a “light” one as well.

BEST FOR – Serious anal play, larger toys, longer sessions, boys packing serious girth and length. Those who don’t worry about synthetic additives.

With something called “fisting cream”, you know they aren’t screwing around (so you can). I’ve seen the term “Rolls Royce” of creams used for this, and I’m inclined to agree. You’ll be able to take the most hardcore play and monster toys with this – but you’ll also have to pay the appropriate price tag.

Sex Shop There’s a desensitizing agent, which could be good if you’re getting used to anal play, but some people (including myself) get squeamish with that idea – so that’s a personal choice if you want to play that way. (and it’s oil, so remember what we’ve talked about).

BEST FOR – People who don’t mind shelling out more for a high-quality oil lube. For big boys and big toys.
